We Can't Do it Without You!
Almost 24 years ago, Daya was started by a group of volunteers who gave of their time, skills, and conviction to stop domestic violence in our community. Volunteers continue to be the backbone of Daya to this day. At this year's annual Daya Volunteer Appreciation Lunch, we came together over a delicious lunch at Kathmandu Curry to recognize the many different ways volunteers give back and to show our gratitude for their support. In attendance were Daya staff, board members including one of the founders of Daya, attorneys from our legal clinic, artists, and the rest of the volunteer team. With about 100 active individuals as part of the team, volunteers provided many hours of crucial support through outreach activities, events logistics, fundraising, driving clients for medical appointments, assembling furniture for housing clients, interpretation and court accompaniments, answering helpline calls, helping clients fill out necessary paperwork to access benefits, helping clients through employment search and economic empowerment, legal representation, and so much more. It's so heartening to have such tremendous community support so we can continue to work towards creating a society where everyone is safe and free from violence.
